Class Descriptions
Acro is a style that combines basic dance technique with the athleticism of tumbling, limbering, and balancing skills. It improves both strength and flexibility with a conditioning element while learning inverted tricks and skills that are taught safely and through progression from an Acrobatic Arts certified instructor.
Alixa Flexibility is a stretch program that promotes good body awareness and mobility with an emphasis on student safety and long term health. Taught by a certified instructor, the progressive and proven syllabus is designed to enhance flexibility safely and effectively. Correct alignment and mobility promotes body confidence and supports pain free movement in all styles of dance.
Ballet promotes correct body alignment, traditional dance etiquette and classical pedagogy. Dancers will learn classical dance terminology as they move through a traditional class with barre and center work.
Conditioning for Dancers is designed to increase range of motion, balance, stability and overall strength to support the style and technique gained in other classes. It involves a combination of cardio, body weight exercises, and weight utilization.
Contemporary is a combination of several styles of dance (ballet, modern, jazz, lyrical) and focuses on spatial awareness, body weight, and groundedness. Classes will emphasize floor work and improvisation.
Hip Hop combines elements of isolation, popping, locking, funk, breaking, and freestyle to create a high energy movement class that allows dancers to express their own sense of style.
Jazz is an upbeat and energetic style of dance. Class will include a warmup, stretch technique, and body isolations followed by across the floor progressions and center combinations.
Jumps and Turns improves technique for all forms of dance. Classes will contain a conditioning component. Dancers will learn and enhance jumps, leaps and turns used in all styles of dance. This is a great class for those looking to strengthen the skills required for middle school and high school dance teams.
Lyrical dance combines elements of ballet and jazz. It is a soft style that emphasizes grace, fluidity, musicality and expressiveness to capture motion through movement
Mini Movers is a class designed to develop gross motor skills specifically for 2-year-olds. Dancers will work on activities to music that allow them to build up the strength and coordination to prepare them for the early childhood program including movement, creativity, musicality, classroom structure, and the ability to focus.
Musical Theater Jazz is an upbeat and energetic style of dance similar to our standard jazz class. In Musical Theater Jazz, dancers will specifically focus on theatrical style, characterization and performance skills.
Pointe work is for the more advanced dancer and builds upon previous ballet training. Classes include exercises to build foot and ankle strength, barre and center work. Because of the strength and skill required, pointe class students must be approved to participate and requires students take both ballet and Progressing Ballet Technique.
In Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT) students will gain awareness of their muscles and how to use them. This innovative body- conditioning and strengthening program enhances technique in all styles of dance by building strength and flexibility as well as positive muscle memory. PBT helps with injury prevention and reinforces proper dance technique that allows students to achieve their personal best.
Tap is a rhythm based style that allows a dancer to create audible beats by striking the floor with their shoe in different ways. It helps develop good coordination and musicality, teaches how to shift weight, and listen to create distinct sounds.
Zumba is a high energy cardio workout that blends dance and fitness moves done to a background of exiliterating international rhythms. It is designed to build dancers’ endurance, quick study coordination, and agility.
